Fellow toastmasters and most welcome guests,

We had a successful meeting on February 1st, 2008. Twenty five people participated in the meeting including the new guests. Thank you for coming and sharing your enthusiasm with us!

Since our president Al was absent, the opening remark was hold by John Donato who was the toastmaster on the day. He started with his brief story of how he has been involved in Toastmaster and welcomed the new guests. Julian then took the role as the table topic toastmaster. The theme of the table topic was related to the current events such as Groundhog day, Superbowl and the primary election. Since the topics were familiar to all the members and the new guests, everyone seemed to be very comfortable and active about participating in the session. Great job, Julian and thanks for wonderful impromptus speech done by the eight participants.

In the prepared speech session, three members John Faulkner, Eric and Sterling gave their wonderful speeches. In his second speech, John told us his interesting lesson of human nature about “Stones”. The next speaker Eric talked about his personal belief and what are the two big challenges that the country is facing right now. He encouraged the audience with a strong gesture to take action in the “Next Week”. It was his 5th speech and he was able to use his gestures very well. In her #8 speech “A Walk in the Uncanny Valley”, our last speaker Sterling practiced her skills on visual aids. She explained vividly how human emotions/instinctions act towards robots and what and where the “uncanny valley” is in human emotion. In the evaluation session, Sang Hee, Cathe and Yong-jie gave their wonderful evaluations. The ah-counter was Migual and the timer of this meeting was Fumi. The meeting was finished at about 7:40 pm right on time thanks for John’s good control of time as the toastmaster. Overall, it was a wonderful meeting! Thanks everyone and see you all next Friday in the same room on Feb 8th, 2008!
